How it all began
"Time for bed!"...Oh, how I dreaded those three words. Like most children, I was afraid of the dark, and going to sleep meant the end of play and the beginning of monsters under the bed. To comfort myself, I would station stuffed animals around my room like fearsome, fluffy sentries.
As an adult, I have found comfort in less direct methods. In 2002, I was in need of an emotional lift, so I wandered into the Nordstrom shoe department for some retail therapy. My mind must have been drifting back to those days of stuffed animals, because it was there, in the middle of the shoe department, that I had my great epiphany to make bedtime better for children. I imagined safari car slippers with real headlights that would light the way for magical, nightly adventures. "Wow, kids will love them!" I thought to myself, "I wish I had some when I was little."
So, that's how it all began--the start of a vision that would soon encompass broader solutions for parents and kids like me. I then set to work on creating those slippers and an accompanying story to show children that getting ready for bed can be the best time of the day. Since those early days, I have been extremely proud of our careful growth and the authenticity of our mission to help families make everyday activities more fun.
By the way, our very first account was...the Nordstrom shoe department!
